So much to do, so little time!

Hello Dear Readers. Dot and Mae were just looking at the calendar and they are amazed at how many holidays there are in such a short month! Did you know that February is the shortest month in the year? Dot and Mae think there are so many holidays in February to cheer people up, because winter is still going strong, but everyone is getting itchy for spring. To cheer everyone up the calendar people just crammed lots of holidays into February to take everyone’s mind off the way winter just keeps dragging on and on.

First it’s Black History Month -there are so many interesting and inspiring African-Americans! Here is a link to find out some fascinating information about people like Martin Luther King Jr., or Rosa Parks, or Langston Hughes, or Billie Holiday, or George Washington Carver, or Maya Angelou, or Jackie Robinson . . . the list just goes on and on! Good stuff - go there.

February 2nd was Groundhog Day - and yes, that little rodent saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter - BOO!

This year Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) was on February 5th. Dot and Mae were so excited to discover the tradition of a King’s Cake - a cake that has a tiny baby inside!!!!! How awesome is that?

The day after Mardi Gras is Ash Wednesday. This is the beginning of Lent, which lasts until Easter. This year it’s very early and falls on March 23.
Remember, O man, that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return. (Latin: Memento homo, quia pulvis es, et in pulverem reverteris.)Genesis 3:19

February 7th we know was Chinese New Year - 2008 is the year of the Rat! Yay for Rizzo! (remember him from the Muppets?)

February 9th, Hershey’s was founded - that fact deserves a kiss! (that was cheesy even by Dot’s standards)

February 12 is the birthday of one of the United States most beloved Presidents: Abraham Lincoln

And February 14th is of course ST. VALENTINE’S DAY - more to come on that later :)

February 15th is National Gumdrop Day, so you can eat them and say, “Goody-goody gumdrop!” as much as you want today!

February 18th is President’s Day. Dot and Mae suppose they wanted to officially celebrate all the president’s rather than just Honest Abe and Good Ol’ George, George Washington that is, whose birthday falls on February 22!

Lastly, 2008 is a Leap Year which means that every four years, February has one extra day - February 29th! See, now isn’t that a lot of reasons to celebrate in one short month! Dot and Mae think so too! So go out and help someone find a reason to smile today - it will make you smile too!
